August 2025 - Update
New business card, who this?

So it's been a very hot minute since I've been able to update this space. I have a bunch of scattered updates but haven't had a chance to make any of them public. That's what apartment renovations do, mess up a lot of plans. I'll elaborate under the jump.

The KashCast has never had a set schedule but it's been on ice for a hot minute now, but I'm still happy at where it is at this point. I've been trying to branch out and find other people in adjacent fields I'm interested in as well as trying to shine spotlight on other creatives. I'm not in a position where I can record, which is also why I haven't made any video essays lately.

GUESTS WHO ARE INTERESTED:

I've had a lot of people on my mind and this isn't the half of it, but with circumstances I don't know if and when I can get these out before year's end. I'll be trying my hardest though. If things can line up I'd love to do dedicated discussion episodes that are focused on a singular topic instead of the typical interview based format that has been the focus for this podcast almost the entire time.

If you're interested in hearing me on another podcast for a change, Angela de Vito (previous guest, retake supervisor on Disney's Kiff) and I were on the wonderful Sparkleside Chats podcast with Ayumi Shinozaki! As of this writing, our episode, which focused on Magical Girl Friendship Squad, isn't publicly out yet but I will be making a big deal out of it once it's up. Ayumi was a great host and it's always great to talk about MGFS; I truthfully never worked on it but creating a video essay about it almost 5 years ago gave me an insane level of attention to detail to this show... which is impressive considering its length, but I digress.

This scrappy show ended up rewriting my DNA almost by complete accident.

Be sure to support Ayumi, and also check out her episode with Kiana Mai on Pretty Please I Don't Want to Be A Magical Girl here:

The KashCast's last episode was with Gary Trimarchi to promote his indie pilot Starstruck as well as his other projects at WaeBak Studios; Starstruck got half its budget on Indiegogo funded but it's still going strong, but any and all help you can send the studio's way would be greatly appreciated. Also, Jenny Yokobori (Harper's voice actress) is going to be at this year's Anime NYC!

Jenny Yokobori - Anime NYC 2025 Cosplay Masquerade Voice of God - Genshin Impact, Hello Kitty & Friends, The Simpsons, Goddess of Victory: NIKKE, One Piece
Jenny's attending a Sanrio and Friends panel with Sandy Fox on Friday and will be attending the Anime NYC Cosplay Masquerade panel on Saturday, and she'll also be there for autographs.

Which is a perfect segway to announce that I'm going there as well! As an ordinary joe. I'm not selling anything. And I'm only going to be there on Friday. Still, that's something! Please feel free to reach out to me if you're also going to be there, I'd love to connect with people. I'm trying my hardest to get some business cards made so people can keep up with me. They'll look slightly different in print form, but this might be a nice header for digital headers in the future. Special thanks to my partner Jay for doing the graphics, and the numerous other creatives I reached out to for advice on this.

I haven't been doing much writing lately but I want to get back to that. Mainly trying to get my video scripts into articles on this site. It's been hard getting back on track writing wise but I still have a lot of ideas, and they should exist in some form instead of not at all. In spite of already having an article though, Tokyopop's Initial D dub needs a standalone video because it's a bit deeper of a rabbit hole than most think, I'm having my friend Branch who manages the Initial D wiki help out with pooling together information and he's been an incredible help.

The most personal article/script I have planned is about the movie Kamikaze Girls / Shimotsuma Story, but I also have personal thoughts on Summer Wars and A Silent Voice. I especially need an excuse to talk about tokusatsu as well and I think my perspective would definitely be a breath of fresh air.

Finally if things get a bit more manageable I would like to slowly start developing the original story I'm working on with Jay. My drawing skill is rusty so that kind of gets in the way of communicating visual ideas, but I'll try my hardest to improve when I have the time.

In an effort to make posting more seamless I want to try linking my website with Bluesky bridgy as well as the recent Ghost 6.0 update so any website updates will pop up on Bluesky, it seems the easiest since PostyBirb does not support Ghost, or that I'm simply not adept enough at coding to build support for it myself.

Finally, I want to say that everyone should find the time to stand up for causes they believe in, because I'm never going to lie and say that the state of the world right now isn't dire, especially since I'm speaking as an American.

Payment processors like Paypal, Visa, and Mastercard are alligning themselves with far right groups in an effort to censor and erradicate art that is NSFW and queer. If you want more information as well as scripts you can use to contact the people enacting these brazen decisions, check out the link below.

You should be calling your senators as well, if you're an American. S.1671 is basically attempting to redefine what pornography is in an attempt to criminialize whatever is found to be "obscene". Fight back.

Here's the bill btw Call your senators and tell them to shut it down

Congress is also attempting to introduce the SCREEN Act which is requiring full age verification on the internet, in an attempt to bring the end to any sort of anonymity. If you're already enraged at the idea of having to show your ID to listen to Spotify or use YouTube, look into this and call your representatives.

If you want something to support, try S.1993, which would limit the training of generative AI. I'm in a position where I'm passing disgusting Sketchers ads with AI synthesized images on my way to catch a train, so anything to curb this would be greatly appreciated.

I get that this isn't exactly the most fun newsletter update, but I never put "wear a mask" in my podcast outro because I thought it was quirky. We should fight back any way we can.

I'm hoping to post more here, but free time and space is still an issue. In any case as long as I can find the time, I'll post. Thanks for being patient with me, stay safe everyone.
